The Story of the Yawgoog TrailsAppendix D: Contact Information for Organizations The following are selected organizations and publishers mentioned in this guide; they are listed alphabetically. Please note that this information is likely to change without notice. Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) The Appalachian Mountain Club is a non-profit organization that maintains hiking trails throughout the Northeast, publishes books and provides other services. Appalachian Mountain Club - Narragansett Chapter The AMC's Narragansett Chapter maintains trails in Rhode Island, including the Narragansett and Tippecansett trails. Footbridges on those trails wee built by the AMC. Audubon Society of Rhode Island (ASRI) The Audubon Society of Rhode Island is a non-profit organization which owns and manages part of the Long and Ell ponds area. Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CTDEP) The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection manages the Pachaug State Forest, which includes the Green Fall Pond area. Connecticut Forest and Park Association (CFPA) The Connecticut Forest and Park Association maintains hiking trails in Connecticut, including the western portion of the Narragansett Trail. It also publishes the Connecticut Walk Book East, a trail guide. Great Swamp Press Publisher of The North South Trail and maps of the Pachaug State Forest and southwestern Rhode Island; these are available at the Reservation trading post and Ure Outfitters. Free maps of the area are also available. Groton Sportsmen's Club, Inc. A portion of the Narragansett Trail runs through the Club's property in North Stonington and Voluntown, Connecticut. Narragansett Council, BSA Narragansett Council, BSA®, operates Yawgoog Scout Reservation and the Yawgoog Alumni Association, which raises funds for the maintenance and improvement of the Reservation. Those who wish to support Yawgoog and its trails are welcome to send tax-deductible donations to the Yawgoog Alumni Association, care of Narragansett Council, at the address above or donate online. The Nature Conservancy (TNC) The Nature Conservancy is a non-political, non-profit organization that owns and operates conservation land in the United States and around the world. The Nature Conservancy of Connecticut Connecticut's chapter of The Nature Conservancy owns the Gladys Foster Preserve on the Narragansett Trail in North Stonington. The Nature Conservancy of Rhode Island Rhode Island's chapter of The Nature Conservancy also owns and manages part of the Long and Ell ponds area. Oldhaven Associates The trust that owns land around Gallup/Hewitt Pond on the Narragansett Trail in North Stonington, Connecticut. Pachaug State Forest Part of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. Note: The Pachaug State Forest headquarters appears to be unresponsive to inquiries. Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management manages part of the Long and Ell ponds area, as part of the state's Rockville Wildlife Management Area. South County Rod & Gun Club A portion of the Tippecansett Trail runs through the Club's property on Escoheag Hill in West Greenwich, Rhode Island. Ure Outfitters Ure Outfitters is a local retailer of equipment and supplies for outdoor activities, including the books mentioned above. Waterproof maps from Great Swamp Press are also provided. Online ordering is not available. Yawgoog Scout Reservation Note: The contact information for Yawgoog Scout Reservation is applicable only during the summer camp season -- from late June until late August.
