THE COMMEMORATIVE QUARTER RECALL RUMOR

part of:

50 States Commemorative Quarter Collector Page

Due to the overwhelming number of Emails from people regarding the infamous "Commemorative Quarter Recall" and "U.S. Mint Quarter Errors" , I have put this page up specifically to respond to this question. For those unaware, rumors have been circulating that many of the new commemorative quarters, namely the Delaware, Pennsylvania and Georgia, have been recalled by the U.S. Mint due to imperfect conditions of the coins.

Such imperfections may consist of:

* Poor centering of the state image on the rear of the quarter.

* Disproportional thickness of the coins

* Upside down Printing on Rear of coins.

* Improper weight specifications

* Blank Printed or "planchette" quarters, and other various discrepancies

According to my sources, a number of banks have reported quarter rolls having a significant decrease in thickness. Selected banks use certain types of machines which determine the value of a quantity of quarters according to thickness, which is why there were counting errors.

Also, selected vending machine manufacturers and owners have reported that many of the new quarters do not work in their machines. The fact that these quarters exhibit decreased thickness and lower weight, contribute to this problem.

Various State Media, namely Pennsylvania and Georgia have had reported Minting errors of their quarters. Printing the rear of the coin Upside down were reported but not verified as of yet.

So, without an official report from the U.S. Bureau of Printing and Engraving, or the U.S. Mint, I cannot confirm a recall had been issued. I can state that many of these quarters are less than perfect, and many of them are HIGHLY COLLECTABLE. Check back for updates.

Lastly, I have personally received inquiries regarding the WORTH OF QUARTERS obtained in circulation which have been minted off-centered, or imperfect in some way. We DO NOT give Email quotes. We are not appraisers, and do not buy such items unless you are willing to mail them to us. We suggest putting them up at auction on Ebay or other coin related auction sites.
